drag queen bingo.

yes, you read that right. the title of this post is "drag queen bingo."

about 2 months ago, a friend told me about drag queen bingo. i thought it would be hilarious and she said that she would take me some time.

then, i promptly forgot about it. that is, until june went & blogged about it a few weeks ago. since then, i've been trying to get to the queens, but easter and a sick friend got in the way, so i couldn't go until saturday night.

let me tell you something ... it was hysterical. there was only one drag queen, and s/he was the color commentary of the actual bingo. and oh.my.word. s/he was so sassy and funny!! and we somehow ended up sitting right in the front of his/her little area, and so s/he could hear our commentary on his/her commentary on the bingo and winners. and it was just too funny. i seriously think we made a friend out of the drag queen.

also, they played great music in the background. it was mostly 90s stuff, but it was definitely from my generation, and it was all the kind of stuff that *everyone* knows the words to. all three of us [myself and my friends, julia, and beth] were singing along and dancing in our seats. and even though we didn't win ANYTHING, it was a *really* good time.

i *do* have some bad news, though. i am sorry to say, i don't have *any* photos from the actual bingo, because here in tucson, it's not actually "drag queen bingo," instead, it's "cosmic" bingo. and cosmic bingo is a lot like midnight bowling ... just like the original, but you add disco lights and do it after 10p and you'll increase the population of people under 50. so the lighting was less than sufficient for photos, even though lucinda holliday had agreed to take a picture with us. so i guess we'll just have to go back to get our picture :)

however, i *do* have one photo of me and jules before the bingo. and happily, my hair was looking pretty good :)

i would also like to point out that i'm wearing my red lipstick. :)

my nanna is an infamous bingo player. i'm wondering if this is something she and i can do together when i'm home?? how do you think my nanna [who is in her 70s, and a "good catholic"] would feel about drag queen bingo??  i'm seriously thinking about it...

  3. I am SO. JEALOUS. Ever since I told my husband about drag queen bingo we've been dying to go, but I haven't found one in the area (which is crazy!). I'm glad you had a great time!
